Contest!!

The eighth grade chorus is performing with the high school choir on Wednesday, February 17th. Remember, we are rehearsing with MMS in the morning and all participating students have to be at East campus at 5:45pm. There are two upcoming contests that the Parkland Chorus students are active participants. Solo and ensemble contest is this weekend and Organizational Contest for 7th and 8th grade chorus is on Friday, March 12th. We have a performance at the Celebration of the Arts festival on Thursday, March 4th for members of the Viking Choir.

It is definitely a busy time of year! Please make sure to ask questions if you have any!! Everyone has been working very hard and we continue to become a better ensemble.

This week in Chorus!

Good Monday morning! This week is the first week of small group lessons. We are on "A" week. If you have concerns about the schedule or need a refresher on understanding the rotation, please see Mrs. Walter.

The first Viking Choir rehearsal will be this Tuesday, August 25th from 2:30-4:00. Those students involved in sports will report to rehearsal first and be dismissed at 3:15 for team practices.

We will be having our second round of Viking Choir auditions this Monday, August 24th and Wednesday, August 26th. Please sign up for a time on the music news bulletin board.

Welcome Back

Welcome back Vikings! I hope that you all had a wonderful summer. This week we will not be having small group lessons as we have several new members joining each of the choirs. We will have full chorus on Monday's, Wednesday's, and every other Friday. For those of you in band, full band will be on Tuesday's, Thursdays, and alternating Friday's.

Viking choir will be held on Tuesdays beginning August 25th from 2:30-4:00. We will have fall auditions for this ensemble on Monday, August 24th and Wednesday, August 26th. Please sign up for your audition time on the Music News bulletin board. The first performance for select members of Viking Choir will be performing at the Walk-a-Thon on Sunday, September 13th.

This blog will be updated each week with rehearsal schedules, performances, and class assignments. Check back and leave a comment or question regarding posted information.

School is Starting Soon!

Greetings visitors to the Parkland Chorus blog. School starts in less than three weeks and the Parkland Music program is getting ready for another award winning year. Open house is August 13th so don't forget to visit the music display and sign up for band and chorus. I, along with the band director, will be available to answer any questions you have about our growing program. Enjoy the last few weeks of vacation and I will see you at open house.

End of the Year News

Congratulations to those students who made Viking Choir. We will have additional auditions in the fall to fill out any missing parts so those who have not yet had the opportunity to audition will have another chance later this year.

The 8th grade chorus will be performing the National Anthem as a whole at their graduation ceremonies on May 27th.

If you know of any other 6th or 7th graders looking to join the Parkland Chorus in the fall, make sure to have them see Mrs. Walter for a registration form and get additional information.

Viking Choir Auditions

Viking Choir audition material has been distributed and the audition sign up list has been posted on the Music News bulletin board. Auditions will be held on the following days:
Thursday, May 7th: During SAT
Tuesday, May 12th: After School
Wednesday, May 13th: During SAT
Wednesday, May 13th: After School
and if needed......
Thursday, May 14th: After School

Results should be posted Friday afternoon, May 15th.

Music in the Parks

Congratulations to the Viking Choir for earning 1st place in their division at Music in the Parks at Great America on Saturday. It was an awesome day and everyone had a great performance with the choir and jazz band.
